Leave No Scrap Behind …
With all of us at home and trying to make the best of what we have, I find this apron project to be fitting.
When I talk to the kids about why this project is so easy and fun, I always mention that it’s my “leave no scraps behind” project. I tell my students that for the pockets and patches they will be using leftover remnants and scraps from bigger projects, or cutoff pieces from pants or skirts that were shortened.
I emphasize the importance of cutting their fabrics and pieces from bigger projects efficiently, always yelling out “leave no scrap behind ...” making sure their unused pieces can be called upon for future projects like this apron, or scrunchies, or patches for mending pants and skirts.
It’s my modern take on “waste not, want not ...”
